Srinagar to Gulmarg Travel Guide

The road from Srinagar to Gulmarg is the first mountain transfer most guests meet. It is close enough for a long day out and far enough — in winding, weather, and height — that we usually prefer a night in the meadow if Gulmarg is a reason you came.

The drive

The usual route is via Tangmarg. The last stretch is winding. Anyone who gets car-sick should sit forward and keep the Gulmarg day free of extra valley hops. In winter we build slack into the transfer and a fallback night in Srinagar if the road is not worth attempting that morning.

When a day trip is enough

• You have few nights and Srinagar is the priority.
• You want a meadow walk more than a gondola queue.
• The group can start after breakfast and accept a dusk return.

A same-day out-and-back that also tries to include Doodhpathri or Yusmarg is how people remember the car. We keep Gulmarg as its own day.

When we write an overnight

The gondola

The Gulmarg Gondola is the headline outing, not an automatic inclusion. Queues, wind, and maintenance can stop a phase for hours. Tickets are paid on the day unless a written quote says otherwise. We decide in the morning, not months ahead.
